The University’s Tuscany Campus has moved to new premises. Launched in the summer of 2012, the campus left its previous building for a larger facility just around the corner in the historic Palazzo Benini. Located on Via Luigi Muzzi, Palazzo Benini was built in the neoclassical style in the late 1700s and is attributed to the architect Antonio Benini.
The Tuscany Campus now has more space (almost 8,000 square feet) and additional rooms better suited to the needs of students and faculty.
On the ground floor, Palazzo Benini boasts an impressive entrance hall lined with paintings and antique wooden benches. Upstairs, the UNH program occupies two floors featuring a reception hall, classrooms, four offices, library, computer room and a beautiful frescoed lounge.
The building is handicapped accessible and is fitted with an elevator, wheelchair ramps and a compliant bathroom. On the ground floor is a typical Italian café for those who want a cappuccino between classes. The new facility also represents a significant savings in rent and overhead costs.
Palazzo Benini is conveniently located in the historic heart of the city center, just a few steps from the cathedral and all of the city’s monuments, and less than a five-minute walk to the train station. Student housing and dining locations are still within a 10-minute walk from the UNH satellite campus.
This month, 33 students and two faculty members (Rachel Torello, psychology) and Victor Markiw, music) traveled to Prato for the spring semester. Students can choose from a wide variety of courses in music, psychology, language, history and sociology.
