On Monday, September 5 when the rest of the university campus was having a relaxing day off, SCOPE was working hard to bring a little fun to your Labor Day. SCOPE filled the Alumni Lounge with their Tropical Island Paradise theme, with fun activities that reminded students of summer vacation.
Even though these weren’t the original plans for the day, SCOPE came through and brought a great event to campus. Because of the threat of rain, again, SCOPE had to first move the event inside and switch some items that were supposed to be for the outdoors for items that would do better indoors, hence the Robo Surfer. It was still a great event.
Students enjoyed testing themselves on the Robo Surfer trying to stay on while being tossed around, almost like they were surfing. They competed against their friends to see who could stay on longer. Some students were really good and stayed on longer than a minute, and other students didn’t have great balance and got tossed off within twenty seconds. But either way, students had fun, and others that were too shy to climb on themselves enjoyed watching.
Those that were too shy to get on the Robo Surfer themselves still had other options. Students could commemorate the event with photo magnets. They were able to take pictures with their friends that were then made into magnets so they could decorate their fridges with them. Also at the event, students were able to decorate treasure chests and binders. There were some very colorful and creative treasure chests and binders walking out of the Alumni Lounge; we have some great artists here on campus.
And if students showed up and didn’t want to get on the Robo Surfer or try out their creative side, they could still fill their stomachs with popcorn and cotton candy. But it was rough start getting the food going. Bringing the event inside limited the power supply. However, SCOPE can handle problems like this though, and even after two power blow outs, the event still continued and some great tasting cotton candy and popcorn was served.
SCOPE will be bringing great events and sometimes greater events to campus all year long; so tuned and pay attention to your emails!
