On Saturday, Sept. 8, the men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in Manchester, Conn., at the Trinity College Bantam Invitational in Wickham Park.
The men’s team ran a 5K race. Freshman Sean Grady led the team with an 11th place finish and a time of 17:18. Senior Arnold Lane was the second Charger to finish.
Lane finished in 43rd place with a time of 19:01. Senior Marvin Azor, freshman Andrew Cunningham, and Ryan Parris followed behind Lane, all finishing in the top 50. Azor finished 45th with a time of 19:08, Cunningham 46th with a time of 19:13, and Parris 49th with a time of 19:23.
Freshman Chad Messam placed 51st, with a time of 19:29, freshman Devin Rose, placed 58th with a time of 20:07. Freshman Garret Davis finished with a time of 21:38, and freshman Jason Fisher finished with a time of 22:26.
Overall, the men scored eighth out of 12 teams with 194 points, only 51 points behind seventh place.
Sophomore Alejandra Cortez led the women’s team in the 4K race with 13th place and a time of 17:56. Sophomore Danielle Sorrentino followed behind Cortez in 28th place with a time of 19:03. Senior Tania Bernardino was the fourth Charger to finish is 33rd place with a time of 19:22. Senior Bridget Faria and sophomore Samantha Mathewson, were next to cross the finish and score for the team in 39th and 41st place, respectively. Faria ran a time of 20:02, and Mathewson with a time of 20:16.
Sophomore Brianna Barron finished 46th with a time of 22:25. Sophomore Leilani Kortman finished 49th with a time of 25:49, and freshman Danielle Cuervo finished with a time of 27:53.
The women finished seventh out of eight teams with 154 points, right behind the hosts of the meet, Trinity College.
The Chargers race again in two weeks on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Father Victor F. Leeber, S.J. Invitational hosted by Fairfield University.
