Friday night’s football game between the Chargers and Pace University’s Pace Setters was projected to be a good one, and it was.
The Chargers ran through the Setters in an absolute display of dominance as they came out on top 47-17.
To open up the first quarter, the Chargers took the field on defense. Pace opened up the game with a short gain, but with an incomplete pass, the Chargers did not show any hints of letting them gain momentum.
On the third down, Pace’s quarterback Ah-shaun Davis threw a deep ball which was intercepted by Jett Hall. And from there, the Chargers never took their foot off the gas. and ran the ball down Pace’s throat with a drive of seven runs and one pass to Jayden Shwed for a seven-yard touchdown. Pace struck back with a drive that included a mix of passes and runs. The drive took off with a huge deep ball pass to wide receiver Elizjah Lewis. Pace got to the goal line and scored with a pass back to Elizjah Lewis. The Chargers then lined up on special teams to return a kick. The ball was kicked into the arms of Kha’lil Eason at the four-yard line, and returned the kickoff all the way for a 96-yard touchdown, making the game 14-7 Chargers. Even with the Chargers looking to have all the momentum, Pace came back, and scored with a slant taken for 70 yards by wide receiver Tyreek Smith. The Chargers got the ball back, but weren’t able to do anything with it and ended up punting back to Pace, who muffed the punt, and the Chargers ended up taking back possession.
To start the second quarter Pace was unable to do anything with the ball, and ended up punting back to the Chargers. The Chargers then drove down the field as they were able to start getting the passing game going with a 47-yard pass from quarterback Daelen Menard to wide receiver Logan Schmidt. Once the Chargers were at the one-yard line, Menard rushed into the endzone for a one-yard touchdown which brought the score 21-14, Chargers. The following drive, Pace had tosettle for a field goal, andmade the score 21-17.
To open up the third quarter the Chargers received the ball. The kick was short, and Eason returned his second kick 59-yards for a touchdown, making it 28-17,Chargers. Pace ended upelecting to go for a punt,and Chargers defensive back Chima Oparablocked the punt, givingthe Chargers great field position, which led to another one-yard rushing touchdown for Menard, making the score 33-17.
Pace then got the ball back, but was unable to score a point for the remainder of the game. The Chargers ended up scoring on back-to-back drives, from a 53-yard rushing touchdown for running back Christopher Ais, to a dart to receiver Mikey Caines. For the remainder of the game, the Chargers defense locked down Pace, and the offense was able to come out on top 47-17, after a tough loss to Slippery Rock last week.
