On Friday, the Chargers hosted the Bentley University Falcons as their senior day opponent. Before the match began, New Haven honored two seniors, Karim Carreras and Risako Umekuni. The conference match consisted of nine games, three doubles and six singles and New Haven won, 7-0.
The undefeated pair Carreras and junior Valentinna Ferrarini competed in the first doubles match and shut out their opponents Catalina Borrero and Maria Mella, 6-0. Sophomore Agustina Ravera competed in her second doubles match of the season with partner Umekuni and faced Sonali Parasu and Isabella Kaldy. The pair secured another point for New Haven, winning 6-2. In the final doubles match, freshmen duo Laura Ortner and Leni Bischof went into a tiebreaker against Bentley’s Julie Madden and Martina Belvedere and won 8-6.
Following the doubles matches, New Haven had an all-around victory in the singles games. In the first singles match, Ferrarini competed against Borrero and won 6-2, 6-1, respectively. In the second singles match, Carreras faced Mella and won 6-2 in the first set and had a 6-0 sweep in the second set. Umekuni competed against Parasu in the third singles match and won 6-0, 6-4, respectively.
Ortner went up against Kaldy for the fourth singles match and won 6-1 in the first set, followed by a score of 6-4 in the second set. Securing another point for New Haven, Ravera competed in the fifth singles match with the Falcons Madden and finished the first set 6-4, and 6-1 in the second set. Bischof was the final Charger to play a singles match against Bentley’s Zoe Sbarra-Vaughan. Bischof dominated 6-0 in both sets and closed out the sweep for the undefeated Chargers.
