Hosted by SCOPE, and planned by head of the novelty and variety committee, Andrea Lambie, this semester’s second paint night was a huge success. Crowds lined up in the Westside lobby waiting to be let into classrooms 111 and 112. Rows of tables with canvas’s and water were spread out around the room. Up in the front various colors of paint were spread out. Once 8:45 p.m. hit, everyone lined up to pick their colors and grab their seats.
SCOPE has five different committees. The novelty and variety committee hosts “make and take” type of events. The materials are provided and it’s up to you to create what you’d like. Previous events from this committee included, “Make Your Own Street Sign” and “The Price Is Right.” The committee has around seven members and meets once a week to discuss ideas for future projects. Some of their upcoming events include “90’s in November,” stenciled mason jars, and “relaxation day.” “90’s in November” will take place this coming Thursday [Nov. 17] in Kaplan 107. They will be playing Nickelodeon Scene It for a variety of prizes. Stenciled mason jars will take place on November 28th. Each student will receive a blank mason jar and will receive peel away stencils. The completed product will have LED tea lights and potpourri inside. This event will take place in the alumni lounge from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Lastly, on December 12th from 12-4 p.m. in the alumni lounge there will be massage chairs and adult coloring books will be given away. You will also be able to make your own ornaments and painted glass bowls.
There are three events like paint night per month. Scope is such a big club and organization on campus that they have a lot of freedom and a big budget so they can plan events students will enjoy. Because they have so much money, it gives them more opportunities other clubs do not have. They are able to have 70 people show up to events and still have money for future events. Each committee has at least two events per month.
“College is all about the experience and when you come to my events you can take the experience home with you,” says Lambie.
Nicole Langlois VP of operations said, “Paint Night is a fantastic event because it allows students to get out of their rooms and unleash their creativity! SCOPE’s mission is to plan new and exciting events for the enjoyment of the campus and this event truly showcases that goal.”
Students in attendance certainly had a great time unleashing their creativity with their friends.
“This was the best stress reliever I’ve ever had,” says Ally Drewes.
Ett Robison agrees saying, “I liked this event, painting is calming.”
Students painted everything from skylines to inspiring quotes, allowing their creativity to flow. The night was a huge success with everyone leaving happy, and SCOPE cannot wait for the next time!
“Thank you to everyone who came out for paint night! The turn out was great so I’ll be sure to plan another one next semester so be sure to look out for it,” says Lambie.
