On November 20, the 44nd annual American Music Awards celebration took place in Los Angeles. Popular artists are selected every year to be honored for their achievements, and then the public votes for their favorites.
Here’s songs from some of the top winners from the show:
Tear In My Heart – Twenty One Pilots
Twenty One Pilots were nominated for “Artist of the Year” and took home two awards: “Favorite Duo or Group” and “Favorite Artist – Alternative Rock.”
Inside Out – The Chainsmokers feat. Charlee
EDM duo The Chainsmokers were nominated for “New Artist of the Year,” “Collaboration of the Year,” and “Favorite Duo or Group.” They won the award for “Favorite Artist – Electronic Dance Music.”
Two Birds, One Stone – Drake
Drake broke the record for most AMA nominations in a year with 13 nominations (topping Michael Jackson’s record of 11). He received four awards, including “Favorite Artist – Rap/Hip-Hop” and “Favorite Song – Soul/R&B” for his feature on Rihanna’s “Work.”
Work From Home – Fifth Harmony feat. Ty Dolla $ign
Fierce girl group Fifth Harmony received the award for “Collaboration of the Year,” following the success of their single that went triple platinum in the United States.
Like I Would – Zayn
After leaving One Direction, Zayn released his first solo album Mind of Mine. The album premiered at the #1 spot with single “Pillowtalk,” earning Zayn the award “New Artist of the Year.”
Dirty Laundry – Carrie Underwood
Carrie Underwood has been nominated for 18 American Music Awards. She took home her 10th and 11th AMA’s for “Favorite Country Female Artist” and “Favorite Country Album.”
Send My Love (To Your New Lover) – Adele
Adele received the award for “Favorite Artist – Adult Contemporary” and was nominated for four other awards since the release of her third studio album 25.
Duele El Corazon – Enrique Iglesias
Enrique Iglesias was awarded for “Favorite Artist – Latin.” “Duele El Corazon” is his latest hit single, which charted in many countries, including going 5x platinum in Italy.
I’ll Show You – Justin Bieber
It is no surprise to anyone that Bieber went home with four AMA’s, including “Video of the Year” and “Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist” because of his latest album Purpose and his EDM collaborations.
Higher – Rihanna
R&B queen Rihanna was nominated for 7 AMA’s, sweeping the R&B/Soul category with wins for “Favorite Female Artist,” “Favorite Album,” and “Favorite Song.”
