Expect the unexpected has been the name of this year’s March Madness tournament. It is unreal how many upsets and uncertainties there have been throughout the extent of this journey.
The VCU vs. Kansas game was quite a disappointment for Kansas fans, because VCU really had this one seed team working hard, only to lose by 10 points. UConn played a hard game to defeat San Diego, and Butler once again came out on top over Florida, who was said to have one of the best defensive teams in this tournament.
The four seed Kentucky left the two seed UNC in their dust to proceed on to the final four. With that being said, is there anybody out there who still has a viable bracket worthy of some sort of money? Probably not, but there are two individuals who had all of the final four picks correct out of 5.9 million people in the ESPN March Madness bracket. Very impressive since there are no longer any one seed teams left in these two matchups, and the chances of picking these unlikely teams in the final four was slim.
Even more surprising is that one of the two men based his guesses on his ignorance of the NCAA basketball and pure luck. The Final Four teams of 2011 consisted of Kentucky, UConn, VCU, and Butler. Any of these four teams had the skill and potential to move on to the next and last round. However, Kentucky made its fourteenth appearance in the final four only to have it taken away by UConn in a devastating one point loss. The Cinderella team VCU did not play the way they have throughout the tournament and gave away many of their opportunities for vital baskets, which lead to their eight point defeat to Butler.
As a result, the eight seed Butler will be up against the three seed UConn for the NCAA Championship. It will indeed be quite a game for UConn and Butler fans, with these two teams battling it out, because both talented teams have made it this far. But only one team can win it all.
