So Much More to Fitness and Wellness

It’s February and that means Valentine’s Day and Mardis Gras. With all the sweets in the air and days like Fat Tuesday, it could be hard to stay focused on a healthy lifestyle. Don’t get fat this Feb. 16, get fit! Participate in any of the Beckerman Recreation Center’s Group X classes and you will be entered into a drawing for a prize. Group X classes offered on Tuesdays are Core Matters, Spinning, Zumba, Step and Sculpt, and Bootcamp. So whether you’re strengthening your core muscles or dancing away the pounds there is sure to be one class on Feb. 16 that provides both a great work out and a chance to win.

New to the fitness center and another awesome way to get fit is the pair of new Expresso bikes. Located on the top level near the entrance these fantastic machines offer a heads up display of the course you are cycling. With gear shifts and music these bikes are an entertaining way to work out. So stop by and try a course, an objective, and/or a race.

The seasonal instructional programs offered in the fall and spring undergraduate semesters are under way. Hopefully you were able to register for such exciting courses as the Belly Dancing and Kenjutsu.

Although the instructional programs are best known by the weekly seasonal specialty classes such as Yoga and Mat Pilates and pilates courses, campus recreation offers other instructional classes, such as CPR. The safety instructional classes differ from the specialty classes in that rather than being several weeks long, the safety classes only take a few hours one day. So if you would like to learn how to be safe when handling biological substances, how to save someone’s life, gather some friends and register for one of our safety classes. All classes and details are listed in our magazine and on the website under “Fitness and Wellness”, then “Instructional Programs,” and then“Safety Classes”.

As always there is a plethora of activities going on at the Beckerman Recreation Center, more than can even be covered in one article. So check out our website, magazine, and/or stop by to see the latest updates. Until next week!
