SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Six University of New Haven football student-athletes have been named to the 2009 All-Northeast-10 Conference Teams as voted by the conference’s head coaches.
Quarterback Ryan Osiecki, wide receiver Sharieff Hall, offensive lineman Zach Conklin, defensive lineman Raheem Stanley and safety Mike Gomes were all named to the All-NE-10 Second Team. Hall also earned Second Team honors as a returner, while Demetrius Washington-Ellison joined each of the second teamers on the NE-10 All-Rookie Team.
Osiecki lead the conference’s top passing team with 2,825 yards and 23 touchdowns on 254-of-411 passing. The first-year player broke UNH records for most completions and most attempts. Osiecki’s favorite target, Hall, tallied a UNH second-best 73 catches for 809 yards and eight touchdowns. Hall was also the Chargers top returner with 30 returns for 740 yards (24.7 yards per return).
The Chargers’ right guard, Conklin earned All-Northeast-10 honors after starting seven games for the Chargers this season. Fellow lineman, Stanley anchored the UNH defensive line all season. He registered 48 total tackles, including 4.0 tackles-for-loss and two quarterback hurries. Another UNH defender, Gomes is the fifth to earn Second Team accolades. The freshman was second on the team with 57 total tackles, 4.5 tackles-for-loss, three interceptions and eight pass break-ups.
Joining all the previous honorees, Washington-Ellison was the second wide received on the All-Rookie team. The fresh was second on the team with 44 catches for 516 yards and seven touchdowns.
In their first season since 2003, the Chargers concluded their 2009 season with a 5-5 overall record and a 4-4 record in the NE-10. That record was good enough for a fifth place finish in the NE-10.
