Let’s flash back a few months ago, shortly after we heard Ben Affleck would be the new Batman. There was a casting call for a female who is a tall, athletic brunette for a role in the new Batman vs. Superman film.
Fans quickly jumped to speculation that this is the cast for Wonder Woman; however, Warner Brothers claimed this was only for a love interest for Bruce Wayne. This seemed to make enough sense: she had to be tall so she can stand up next to the monster Ben Affleck, and athletic. Because of that, I just ignored this news and brushed it off as a simple story that blew up like a balloon. But then, Stan Lee’s Comic Kazi happened this weekend.
At Comic Kazi, Jamie Alexander, who plays Sif in Thor and Thor: The Dark World, did a panel with AMC movie news discussing the new Thor movie. In it, she revealed she is one of four finalists for that mystery female role, and that she knows “basically the whole movie.”
WB swore this role is only Batman’s love interest, but Alexander refused to expand on the topic. If that sounds a little fishy, it gets better. She later tweeted a Photoshopped picture of herself as Wonder Woman. But still, she claimed it means nothing and was just for fun.
Then, the bomb hit: I was listening to my usual movie V-log by John Campea, who hosted the AMC panel, and he said, “What she told you is NOTHING compared to what she told me back stage, but I can’t tell you anything.” He specifically mentioned that he can not specify if she is or isn’t Wonder Woman.
Is it safe to say we have our Wonder Woman? I think so. I’m not sure we’ll see Wonder Woman in the movie, but I think there will be a quick “John Blake is Robin” pun at the end. Of course my speculation could be very wrong; she could have simply disclosed to Campea the villain or another new character.
Take this news for what it’s worth—that’s just what my gut feeling says. This news swept the internet quickly. Within a few hours Wonder Woman fan boys prayed “thank you” to whichever god they believe in. I still say don’t get your hopes up to high, but you can be excited. This could all just be a complete stretch in WB’s plan to steal some thunder from the Avengers.
