It’s funny sometimes how things work out. In the March 28 issue of The Charger Bulletin, I wrote an editorial discussing the misuse of social media that pops up here and there when things happen on campus (e.g. the housing situation). Everyone has to know by now, but a GI virus spread like wildfire through the campus community over the past few days. As a result of this, a group, UNH ******* Plague, was formed on Facebook. I was actually pretty happy with the content of the page in the end, of course there were a few posts here or there trying to start trouble, but overall everything stayed focused on helping those who fell ill and throwing in a laugh here or there, as well as making sure the information from Health Services and the email from the administration was spread for those students who check their email a little less often. So to the 476 people in the group, pat yourselves on the back, you did well!
Moving on from the plague, which by the time this is published will hopefully be completely over, I just want to throw out a little bit of info and make sure that everyone planning on graduating on May 13 knows that Charge Out! is this Wednesday, April 11 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Rec Center. All information about Charge Out! and commencement can be found here: http://www.newhaven.edu/commencement , but some quick info is that you will be able to pick up your cap and gown, graduation tickets, and register for Senior Week events among other things at Charge Out!. If you are unable to make it to Charge Out!, there will be additional opportunities to pick up commencement tickets, but those dates and times will not be announced until after the event on the 11.
It’s hard to believe that in a little over three weeks, classes will be over and it will be time for finals, and for some folks like myself, graduation follows just a little bit later. I’ve said it on multiple occasions over the past two years, but I’ll say it again; we’re in the home stretch now so be sure to buckle down and make sure you’re on top of all those long term assignments that sneak up on everyone around this time. You don’t want to start a huge project that should take the entire semester two days before it’s due, so start now if you haven’t already and keep working! Worried about your grade in a class? Talk to your professor now and see if they have any advice. If you wait till the day of your final, there’s not really much that can be done. Keep up the hard work and this semester will end on a good, and hopefully not too stressful, note.
