After a summer of superheroes, it is time for a different paced movie, and man are they coming out of the wood works and stealing the show. Last weekend, Real Steal premiered in theaters and took everybody by surprise.
This is a fantastic future based movie that tells a story of hardship and family values. In the future, human boxing has become obsolete, along with a few other sports. What sports are people into you ask? Well the popular sport now is robot boxing, where humans control the moves but get none of the repercussions.
The movie follows Charlie, played by Hugh Jackman, who is down on his luck when he finds out that he has a son, Max, played by Dakota Goyo, that he never wanted. Charlie can’t take care of himself much less another human being, but he takes his son for the summer. While scrounging through a junk yard for scraps, they find an old bot. Max restores the robot, and even though Charlie thought it wouldn’t make it through one round, they play the bot in a match. To everyone’s surprise the robot wins!
Now it becomes a story of father and son banding in their fight against everyone else to win. This movie really has something for everyone. It is a story about an underdog; it may be an underdog robot, but an underdog none the less. It’s also the story of a father and son and how they bonded. The movie has fight scenes, family moments, and of course those in between funny situations. All in all it’s a great movie to watch.
Apparently a lot of people thought the same thing, because it earned close to twenty-eight million dollars over the opening weekend, and the viewer’s gave it 7.6 stars out of ten (from imdb.com). It was a fantastic movie, in my opinion. The story line was amazing, and it was brought together by the perfect cast. They worked really well with each other; Dakota Goyo was adorable and of course Hugh Jackman is always a crowd favorite. It’s definitely a movie worth seeing.
