Nine years ago, One Republic’s debut album was introduced to the world, and since then they have had hit after hit. This Includes “Apologize,” “Secrets,” “Counting Stars,” “Good Life” and more. One Republic’s members Ryan Tedder, Drew Brown, Eddie Fisher, Zach Filkins, and Brent Kutzle worked on their fourth studio album Oh My, My, and was released on October 7. In an interview, Ryan Tedder stated that the band was going to go in a new direction, which this album depicts.
The first single off Oh My, My was “Wherever I Go,” which came out back in May, while the second single was released back in August, “Kids.” Both of these singles represent the new style that the band went with. Out of all the songs on the album, my three favorites would have to be “Lets Hurt Tonight,” “A.I. ft. Peter Gabriel,” and “Better.” Each song is unique in its own way, and they all provide catchy qualities. “Let’s Hurt Tonight” is the first track on Oh My, My, and I cannot think of a better song to start off the album with. The chorus, in my option, is the best part, as it captures Ryan’s vocals perfectly. “A.I.” is the longest song off the album, lasting five minutes, but it is definitely worth the listen; the chorus features a catchy dance tone. Lastly, “Better” is probably my favorite song; it features a catchy beat and a new sound.
I have been following the progress of this album from One Republic’s Instagram account (@onerepublic). Ryan Tedder and his crew worked hard for almost two years on this album, and the finished product is better than anything I could have imagined. I cannot wait to hear all their new music in the future, and I cannot wait to see which will be the next single off Oh My, My.
