We all know Valentine’s Day is a touchy subject for some single people. Personally, I want to make the most of it when I’m single. This Valentine’s Day, I asked my four roommates to go on a double date to Bertucci’s. We’re going to spend the evening eating delicious Italian food and stuffing ourselves with desserts like all people should. Maybe we’ll buy each other chocolate or, maybe we’ll just eat a lot of cake at Bertucci’s.
I’ve decided to ask a few people around school how they’re spending their Valentine’s Day.
“I’ll be on my bed sharing love to my precious Xbox,” Scotty Iwaniec said.
Olivia Tangney said, “hanging out with some friends of mine, getting dinner, watching movies, and of course there will be cuddling!”
“This Valentine’s Day I will be sharing it with my friends like it’s any other day,” Josh Richards said. “We will most likely be spending it hanging in the common room, having a good time, and doing what we always do. It’s just going to be like another day to me.”
Cliff Vosberg fantastically stated, “Valentine’s Day started with Saint Valentine. He was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire. Legend states that before his execution, he wrote “from your Valentine” as a farewell to her. This is the history of this now huge money making “holiday” based around torturing males into sweating and getting material items for their loved ones. This “holiday” falls into the category of: Father’s Day and Mother’s Day. Both of these where created for business to make money. I am not against money making; I am all for capitalism, but these “holidays” are just based around making money. I having a girlfriend am forced into this “holiday”. Do us men even have a choice? Nope, ya don’t. You better buy your girl something nice and shiny in a small box or you’re sleeping on the couch. I for Valentine’s Day will be taking my girlfriend out to dinner, along with buying as stated, jewelry and some oh so original flowers. I am poor. I have no money. I’m going to have to take out a loan just to be able to do something respectable and not lose my manhood…”
From a comedic standpoint, Volodymyr Jatsiv said, “I am going to spend Valentine’s Day with my bro Danny Kiley. First, we’re going to school to finish our classes for the week. After we’re done with our classes, we participate in an illegal drag race on Route 1. After I win the race and receive my trophy filled with chocolate, we return to campus by helicopter, of course. After we land in the quad, we get on the shuttle bus, and hit up downtown for the night. Bosses.”
So all in all, Valentine’s Day is a very interesting holiday for people and everyone celebrates it differently.
