The 2024 fall sports season had many remarkable successes including a national championship appearance and two conference league championship wins.
Despite falling short in the first round of the Northeast-10 (NE10) conference rounds, the university’s field hockey team put up a strong fight throughout the season and two key players were named to the all-conference accolades. Defender Kelli Jacobson earned a spot on the all-conference second team and attack Abby Nixon earned a third team honor.
Additionally, the women’s soccer team had two players score a spot on the all-conference teams, as well as three placed on the all-district honor. Senior Angelina Schilling earned a third team accolade and freshman Grace Simpson secured a spot on the all-rookie squad. The junior pair Caitlin Daley and Caroline Ennis along with sophomore Lola Wood were named to the academic all-district honors.
The men’s soccer team not only made an appearance in the NE10 championship but also made the NCAA playoffs for the first time in 40 years. Senior Adam Lindstrom, junior Oskar Kvarnback and sophomore Saar Almoznino each earned a spot on the academic all-district honors.
In addition, the Chargers’ volleyball team competed in the NE10 championship semifinals and returned to the NCAA tournament. A Charger trio also landed spots on the all-region honors including outside hitter Sofia Kamke and middle blocker Amber Williams with a first team honor and outside hitter Grace Juergens with an honorable mention distinction.
For the first time in 23 years, cross country student athlete Mohammed Abunar represented the university in the national championship and was named to the all-conference second team accolades, as was graduate student April Mauceri.
The women’s tennis team broke program history this year by winning their first NE10 championship and finishing the season undefeated. Seven Chargers also earned 13 different accolades, and head coach Chris Raffone was named coach of the year.
Finishing the season strong, the football team went back-to-back with NE10 championship wins and coach Chris Pincince was selected as coach of the year for the second time in his career. The Chargers didn’t stop there as they made another appearance in the NCAA playoffs and 16 players were honored in postseason accolades. Six Chargers also scored spots on the All-New England honors.
