The men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams returned to Boston Mass. to compete again this weekend at Boston University. The 2012 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field Championship was another two day meet that took place on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
The men placed 11 out of 34 teams. David Thomas, Matt Jeune, and Kevin Downing achieved qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II National Championship in their respective events. David Thomas performed exceptionally well again this weekend when he won the long jump, with a jump of 7.23 meters. Thomas also placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.54 seconds.
Matt Jeune competed in the high jump again this weekend and placed third with a height of 2.09 meters. Kevin Downing placed eighth in both the 60-meter dash, with a time of 7.02 seconds and the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.78 seconds.
On the women’s side, Tiara Mitchell is the only Charger to post a qualifying mark in the triple jump this season and recorded an NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump along with a eleventh place finish at the meet.
Briana Conyers followed right behind Mitchell placing twelfth in the triple jump, and seventeenth in the long jump. Calista Hutchinson also competed in the long jump and placed twenty-second.
Alissa Howell placed ninth in the long jump, with a jump of 5.22 meters, and twenty-third in the triple jump, with a jump of 10.41 meters. Shraya Manick placed ninth with a throw of 15.80 meters.
Both the men’s and women’s distance medley relay teams competed this weekend and placed eighteenth. The men’s team with Matt Dunham , Winston Reid , Christopher Dannenhoffer, and Tim Nohelty finished with a time of 10:29.05. The women’s team with Dominique Stasulli, Meredith O’Connor, Alejandra Cortez, and Danielle Sorrentino finished with a time of 12:52.24.
Dunham, Dannenhoffer, Nohelty also ran the 4×800 meter relay along with Matthew Eder. The relay placed twenty-first with a time of 8:08.50.
The Chargers that will continue on in their indoor season will compete next at NCAA Division II National Championship on March 9 – 10 at Minnesota State University.
