To start off the night, Safe Bet Secret a pop/rock band from Shelton, Conn. opened up the show. They did a great job getting everyone ready for all the bands to follow. They played a few of their songs, which were really good. The drummer was unable to accompany them at the show, but they gave it their all and pulled it off. Props to them for doing a great job without their drummer.
Following Safe Bet Secret was Like Violet, a pop/rock band from Milford, Conn. Caitlin and Carly, previous members of Kicking Daisies, left the band to form Like Violet. They played their songs “Europe,” “Fugitive,” “Fire Fire,” and some of their old songs. Caitlin’s voice was very unique and once the crowd heard her sing, they were really impressed.
Then Crash The Party, a pop band from Hamden, Conn., took their turn up on stage. They were so energetic and knew how to get the fans all hyped up. They played “Another Superman” and “Call You Mine,” along with others off their new album, Come Alive. I had the chance to sit down with Ian, Chris, and Crick, and asked them a few questions. One of my favorite parts during the interview was when the three of them stood up and just demonstrated how they destressed before a show. Another question I had asked them was “How did you come up with the band name Crash The Party?”
Ian started to do rock paper scissors and said, “Pretty much it basically came from that.” Hmm… very interesting, would have never guessed that their band name came by doing rock paper scissors. At one point they all had their left foot resting on a chest and Crick states that, “I had my foot on it to begin with and then you all followed.” So they decided let’s settle this by doing rock paper scissors, and clearly Crick won.
After Crash The Party, Move Out West, a rock band from Hartford, Conn., hit the stage. They played their songs, “Magic Eight Ball,” “God Damn,” along with others. I was able to meet with members, Eben, Cyrus, Mark, Luke and LJ to ask them questions about their album released in November 2012, All’s Well on the Eastern Front.
These guys were full of personality, which made the interview very interesting. For most of the interview they couldn’t keep on topic and would just start talking about something completely random. One question that was asked was, “How did you guys come up with the band name Move Out West?” Eben said he came up with the name when he was about 19. He idolized California and wanted to move there one day and basically used the term “Move Out West” to make it the band name. I then came to a touchy topic when I asked what their song “Forever” was about. Eben explained how it was basically about six months of his life with someone who he cared about a lot.
Finally, it was time for Weatherstar, a pop/rock band from Southport, Conn. I was able to catch up with Cameron, Julian, Izaiah and Jimmy before their set. They were all sweet and funny which made the interview fun. I asked whom they wanted to write songs with in the future. They all gave answers involving writers who are very high on the list. Julian said “The O2 Arena,” and Cameron said “Paul McCartney.” Even though they have a long way to get to that point, nothing is impossible.
Cameron stated how he came up with the band name Weatherstar. “In 2009, I came up with the name Weatherstar, when I wrote the first EP and realized most of the lyrics of the songs had something to do with the weather,” he said.
They played their new single, “Better Off Alone.” It was a great performance. This audience was the first to hear their new song that hasn’t been finished yet. Cameron of Weatherstar announced before the song, “We didn’t finish this song yet so don’t mind me if I mumble some parts.” The fans didn’t care, rocked along, and enjoyed the song. As it was coming to their last song, everyone was disappointed but all that matters was that everyone really enjoyed the show.
Stay tuned for more on these five bands. If you haven’t checked them out, then do so because you won’t be disappointed by what you hear. If you also have the chance to see them live, go and see them; they sound incredible.
