The New Haven Men’s Track and Field team traveled to Eastern Massachusetts to compete in the Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational Meet held at Northeastern University. From start to finish the team dominated in the sand and on the track, winning four events and ten total top finishes.

Jordany Dely opened up the meet in the 110 meter hurdles taking home third in the event. After finishing third in qualifying with a time of 15.04, he would run sub 15 in the finals, running 14.62 beating out teammate Abdiel Tejada for third place and the podium finish.

Nathaniel Peters had himself a pair of top finishes, first winning the 400 meter hurdles followed by a second place finish in the High Jump tied with teammate Zerion Montgomery. In the hurdles, Peters ran the meet best 58.23 securing the victory and beating out his seeded time by two seconds. In the High Jump he would carry over the success clearing opening height on his first jump. He would then follow that up with clearing 1.83 meters on his first attempt. At 1.88 meters Peters would narrowly miss clearing the height but would secure the second place finish. Teammate Zerion Montgomery would do the same as Peters, clearing both 1.78 and 1.83 meters on his first jump before just hitting the bar on his final jump. Peters and Montgomery would tie for second place in the event.

That was just the beginning for Montgomery as he would find himself with another top finish in the long jump. Entering the event Montgomery was seeded at 6.80 meters, but after he would have a new seed going forward. Opening up Montgomery jumped 6.71 meters, but that was quickly surpassed by his second jump of 6.84 meters surpassing his previous jump and mark and making the finals. In the finals he would wait until his final jump to once again beat his previous mark, jumping 6.85 meters beating out his seed and finishing third.

Cole Parker was jumping with Montgomery and needed just one jump to finish second overall. Parker was seeded at 6.66 meters and would leap well past that. After fouling his first jump, Parker came back strongly, jumping 6.88 meters which moved him up to second place and beating his previous seed by .22 meters. That jump would be all he needed taking home second place for the blue and gold.

The sand continued to be the place for the Chargers as Jonathan Cineus and Jacky Marescot went one two, in the triple jump. Cineus would build the suspense and put the pressure on waiting until his sixth and final jump to record his winner. After fouling three jumps, Cineus jumped 13.29 meters on his fifth jump. Following that up, he would surpass his previous jump of 13.96 meters and secure the win for him. Marescot would also wait until his very last jump before getting his mark to finish second. Going into his last his mark was 13.30 meters but he would add on .21 meters finishing with a final jump of 13.51 meters and taking home second place.

William Brown would lead the distance taking home third in the 5,000 meter. Brown crossed with a time of 16:06.84 beating his teammates by two minutes and securing the third place finish.

Closing out the meet both relay teams took home wins first with the 4×100 meter relay team. The team of Frederick Koomson, Ryan Williams, Nile Colson and Jason Lorent crossed with a time of 42.34 winning the event for the Chargers.

Following that the 4×400 meter relay team of Ryan Williams, Blake Jandreau, Kevin Leach-Brown, and Jordany Dely crossed in 3:20.59 also winning the event for the Blue and Gold.

The team now returns to Connecticut for their final regular season meet and their Senior Day meet at Southern Connecticut State competing at the Jim Barber & Jack Maloney Tri-Meet next weekend. That will be the final meet ahead of the Conference Championships that is now two weeks away.
