After sweeping Dominican University, the Chargers hosted the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights this past Wednesday. The game ended in a tie with a score of 0-0.
Both teams began pressuring each other with high intensity early on in the game, keeping the ball rolling around the pitch and looking to get on the scoreboard. The Chargers began taking attempted shots but couldn’t make it past the Purple Knight’s defense. New Haven finished the game with 10 shots on goal. Leading the Chargers, Albert Portas had a total of five shots, two of which were on goal. The five other Chargers who attempted to put the ball in the back of the net included Luke Fiscella, Albert Porqueras, David Maiello, Mattia Maiello, and Gianluca Trastulli.
Both the Chargers and Purple Knights kept showing pressure but none were able to capitalize on the opportunities they had. The Bridgeport goalkeeper, Gianny Provincial, stayed in action with a total of five saves during the 90 minutes of play. Archie Watts, New Haven’s goalkeeper,encountered a fantastic save as the match was ending making it his second clean sheet of the season.
Toward the end of the game the Chargers and Purple Knights became more aggressive. The game ended with a total of 24 fouls between both sides. Official referee Saleh Ead ended the full 90 minute game, giving out a total of six yellow cards.
