WALTHAM, Mass.–Despite taking a 1-0 lead early in the first half, the visiting University of New Haven men’s soccer team fell 6-2 to Bentley College on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 11. The Chargers are now 3-9-0, 2-6-0 NE-10, while the Falcons improve to 5-6-2, 2-5-2 NE-10.
Just over five minutes into the game, junior Oren Corriden capitalized on a Bentley turnover and found the back of the net from 10 yards out, giving New Haven the early advantage. The goal is his third on the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Jonathan Creem kept the Chargers in the lead early, posting three saves in a four-minute stretch after the Corriden goal. However, Bentley struck at the 28:22 mark from 15 yards out to tie the game.
Bentley then scored three times in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 4-1 lead at halftime.
New Haven opened the scoring in the second half when Jelani Joslyn rifled home a free kick from 20 yards out. That would be the last score for the Chargers as Bentley tallied two more goals to round out the scoring.
The Chargers were out-shot 16-5 but held a 6-0 advantage in saves.
New Haven returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 against Franklin Pierce at Kayo Field at 1:00 p.m.
