The New Haven Chargers took on Holy Family University on Friday, Sept. 5 at Kathy Zolad Stadium. With a strong offensive start, the Chargers took a spectacular win over the Tigers, ending with a score of 4-0.
Four different players contributed to the win against Holy Family, led by midfielder Adam Lindstrom. Anthony David set up an assist leading Lindstrom to put the ball in the back of the net and get the Chargers on the scoreboard. In the first half, the Tigers attempted to score a total of 8 shots, two of which were saved by New Haven goalkeeper Mattia Palanca.
Entering halftime, New Haven held a 1-0 lead against Holy Family. In the 66th minute of the game, forward Mattia Maiello scored another goal for the Chargers. Within five minutes of Maeillo’s goal, Albert Portas took the ball down the line and made a cross into the box, assisting defender David Rosen to rack the score to 3-0 after heading the ball into the back of the net. To seal their dominance in the second half, striker Pau Santanach scored the final goal of the game assisted by Deni IIjazi.
New Haven finished the game with a total of 14 shots, while Holy Family ended with a total of 10. The Chargers also had a striking 18 foul count, as the Tigers had 8.
The Chargers will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 8 against Dominican University at the Kathy Zolad Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. as New Haven fights to stay in the win column. For more information, please visit NewHavenChargers.com.
