INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the first time in nine seasons and the sixth time in program history, the University of New Haven men’s basketball team is headed to the NCAA Division II Championship tournament. The Chargers earned the No. 4 seed in the East Region Championship which will be hosted by No. 2 seed Saint Anselm College at the campus of Southern New Hampshire University. The NCAA men’s basketball championship committee announced the field of 64 teams late Sunday night.
New Haven earned an at-large bid and will play fifth seed Dominican College, an at-large selection from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), in the opening round on Saturday, March 16 at 8:30 p.m.
In New Haven’s most recent NCAA berth, the 2003-04 Chargers lost in the opening round to Southern New Hampshire. One year prior, UNH earned its second NCAA tournament victory in the opening round over the Penmen. UNH has never advanced past the second round, posting an all-time record of 2-7 in the NCAA tournament.
