The Chargers lost to the Adelphi University Panthers, 70-59, for their final regular season game on Tuesday. New Haven had lost to Adelphi earlier in the season and fell short of the Panthers by double-digits both times.
The Panthers took an early lead over the Chargers with a dominant offense and entered halftime with a 10-point advantage. New Haven’s offense was able to shorten the gap early in the second half, but their defense could not keep up with Adelphi’s consistent scoring.
Forward Syrus Grisby led the Chargers with 12 points after shooting 6-for-10 from the field. Grisby also had 10 rebounds and two blocks. Guard Jah’Likai King had 11 points and finished the game shooting 4-for-14 from the field and 3-for-3 at the free-throw line. King also had eight rebounds, three assists and a steal. Forward Ethan Simmon and guard Tristian Jeffries both finished with 10 points. Jeffries added two rebounds while Simmon had one.
Guard Najimi George shot 4-for-7 from the field and had eight points. George also added five rebounds. Guard Seth Sharif-Brown had five points, four rebounds, one assist and a block. Guard Javel Cherry put up three points after shooting 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.
The Panthers finished shooting 49.1% from the field, while New Haven shot 36.9%. The Chargers went 3-for-18 from behind the three-point arc, while the Panthers finished 9-for-18. Adelphi committed 14 personal fouls, which allowed the Chargers to shoot 8-for-14 at the free-throw line. New Haven finished the game with 39 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and three steals. During 40 minutes of play, the Chargers committed 13 personal fouls and had 10 turnovers.
On Friday, the Chargers faced the Saint Michael’s Purple Knights in the opening round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship but lost, 66-58.
