The Marine Conservation Society held a Marine Carnival last week to mark Marine Week.
Taking place in the Bixler/Gerber quad, the carnival featured free T-shirts and events you could walk to and earn tickets for interacting with tables.
The tickets could be exchanged at the prize table for special rewards such as Beats headphones, LED lights, a variety of stickers and other prizes. WNHU provided the DJs present for the event.
The tables offered experiences such as competitions for who could scream the loudest into a microphone, mini cup pong games, a tug of war and plants, dirt and seeds to plant summer fruits and vegetables.
A shark mascot walked around the quad taking pictures with students and participating in some of the games. The shark was a fan favorite and was busy throughout the entire event participating and entertaining the crowds the event brought.
An informational table demonstrated the effect that humans have on the environment by comparing biodegradable items, such as paper, fruit peels and other natural items, to non-degradable items such as plastic. The demonstration showed that plastic and non-natural items are a danger to the environment, especially to the marine environment where animals are at risk of consuming and dying from these items.
The table also provided students with a QR code to their national Pollinator Pledge, which led to a signing page where the campus could be nominated to be featured on the Pollinator Recovery website.
The event lasted until 9 p.m., but was so popular that prizes began to run out by 7 p.m.
