Perspective
Pop star Sabrina Carpenter kicked off her Short n’ Sweet Tour this week in Columbus, Ohio, and she did not disappoint. This is Carpenter’s first arena tour and she has left a significant impression already. With 21 songs on the set list, eight came from her most recent album “Short n’ Sweet” that spent several weeks at No.1 on Billboard’s album chart. From unique stage props and designs to bedazzled outfits, the budget of this tour is noticeable. Luckily enough, some of us may be able to witness these sets live when she is in Hartford, Conn. performing at the XL Center on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
Tickets are sold out, but if you really want to attend, you may be able to snag resale tickets on Ticketmaster for around $300 a piece. High resale ticket prices aren’t new in the ticketing world, especially for someone like Carpenter with a huge fan base of millions. Coming to Connecticut, which rarely hosts big names in the music industry, it’s not surprising that the tickets sold out so fast. Even non-Carpenters simply want to hear her hits live, like her song of the year, “Espresso.”
After the recent Columbus show, Carpenter took to Instagram to thank everyone for an amazing first stop, “OPENING NIGHT SURE WAS SWEET!!!!” she said in the post and expressed her excitement to see all of her fan’s “pretty faces again.”
For those attending, what does Carpenter have in store for you? Music wise, the concert is split into four acts, one of which being her encore at the end of the show with the song “Espresso.” Act one starts off with her song “Taste” and later, songs from other albums are also played. Are you a big fan of “emails i can’t send”? Well, you’ll be glad to hear songs like “Nonsense” (unfortunately minus her iconic outros) or “Feather,” with a new jazz remix. Besides the set list of her own songs, she introduced a “spin the bottle” game during the concert to choose a cover song to perform. Columbus got the chance to hear a cover of ABBA’s “Mamma Mia,” but who knows what she’ll have in store for her Connecticut show.
The design of the stage itself is portrayed as a fancy apartment with a spiral staircase and features a bedroom for her song “Bed Chem”. Even with the opening and intermissions, Carpenter kept her audience entertained with the use of the screens to portray her own 60s style television show, leaving fans obsessed with the theming. Comments on Tik Tok talk about how her theming is on point, calling Carpenter a “Barbie” or “Polly Pocket” doll, and some saying how she brings back the “Pop” to “Pop Star.”
