By Hanko Dobi, Marvin K. Peterson Library
We are pleased to announce that the Marvin K. Peterson Library at the University of New Haven has digitized and made available online a number of materials from the University Archives. They can easily be located on the Library’s home page at http://www.newhaven.edu/library.
The Library regularly receives requests for information and photographs about the University’s history, buildings, events, and people from students, faculty, staff, and alumni. These digitization projects allow a wider group of researchers to investigate and enjoy many of these treasures.
TEXTS
The Chariot (Yearbooks,) Elm City Review, The Noiseless Spider, Insight, the University of New Haven Alumni Magazine, Bulletins, Undergraduate Catalogs, Graduate Catalogs, and New Haven Junior College Catalogs. To view these collections, simply visit: http://www.archive.org/details/universityofnewhaven.
This exciting project was made possible through the LYRASIS Mass Digitization Collaborative – a Sloan Foundation grant-subsidized program that has made digitization easy and affordable for libraries and cultural institutions across the country.
Through the Collaborative’s partnership with the Internet Archive, all items were scanned from cover- to-cover and in full color. You can choose from a variety of formats, page through a book choosing the “read online” option, download the PDF or search the full text version.
PHOTOGRAPHS
A separate project being handled in-house digitizes photographs from the University Archives for online viewing and downloading at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/unhctlibrary/. New photographs are being added every week, so check back often.
Photographs include campus buildings, University events, class pictures, and people associated with the University, including the University’s Presidents. There are many photographs of sporting events and teams, including ice hockey, golf, basketball, baseball, soccer, and tennis. We even include some really old pictures of New Haven College.
Marion Sachdeva, retired Head of Technical Services, was instrumental in organizing and supervising both of these digitization projects. Graduate Assistant Deena El-Attar digitized and posted the photographs. If you have any questions or comments about either of these projects and the works that have been digitized, please contact University Librarian Hanko Dobi at [email protected].
