The Beatles are arguably, the most notable and influential band to date in the world. There is not a single person who can not name at least one Beatle’s song off the top of their head, or at least hum along.
The Beatles were not only influential to listeners, but also other artists such as, Roberta Flack. Roberta Flack is a 1970’s blues and R&B singer, who is most well known for her songs “The Closer I Get to You,” and “Killing Me Softly.”
Flack decided that for her newest album release she wanted to bring back the sounds that were around when she first became an artist. The classic songs that molded music into what we know today.
Flack is a four-time Grammy award winner, and is known for her calm, and classy jazz tones. Her cover of “Let it Be” is perhaps my favorite on the album. It has such a soulful, and powerful message with an almost transcendental feel.
Flack’s main goal for this album was to bring back the sounds that were once so prominent, and make them a bit more modern. After listening to the mellow, and bluesy tracks, anyone is sure to want to buy a copy of the album. Be sure to listen to every track.
Most of these songs are so well known that it is a treat to just listen and see what Flack has done to the melody, and beat changes. Let It Be Roberta is Flack’s first in eight years, and was produced by Sherrod Barnes, who has also produced Beyoncé’ and Angie Stone, with contributing producers Jerry Barnes and Barry Miles, and was released on February 7 worldwide.
Flack says, “My passion for this project comes from the magical genius of the greatest songwriters of all time. Love, inspiration, friendship, and my own life’s lessons come together when I sing the songs they created. I am honored to be a part of the fabulous legacy of the Beatles.”
