The Bartels Student Activity Center Patio was all aglow on April 29, 2015 as the campus To Write Love On Her Arms chapter lit “Lanterns of Love” to honor and remember those who have passed away from suicide.
To Write Love On Her Arms, is described on the official website, as “a nonprofit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire, and invest directly into treatment and recovery.”
This specific event, Lanterns of Love, was designed to promote awareness and support for those who have lost someone to suicide, and to “provide a light in the darkness”, reminding all that there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel.
At this year’s third annual Lanterns of Love, club members and non-members alike decorated mason jars, which were appropriately lit at sunset.
The club on campus, according to TWLOHA Treasurer Angela Cohen, is extremely beneficial to over-all moral. “Being on campus, we’re always there to support those in our community.” In regards to various emotions and struggles, Cohen stated, “Many believe it’s not very common, so they feel like they’re going through it alone. By being on campus, we try to show others that they’re not alone; there are others going through similar things.” She reiterated, “We’re always there to support.”
Lanterns of Love is TWLOHA’s last big event of the semester, although a club member revealed that the chapter will be giving out carnations in the near future to wish the UNH community a happy and healthy summer break.
