On Saturday, November 5, SCOPE Weekend Programming took a trip to New York City to go skating in Rockefeller Center. It was an amazing trip; there was a couple of hours in the city and then an amazing experience ice skating in probably the most popular ice skating rink.
Students signed in with SCOPE at 11:00 in the morning and then headed off to the Big Apple. After arriving, they had until 6:00 p.m. to spend in the city. And of course, being in New York, there was plenty to see. I am sure some students visited Time Square, like I did, and man was I amazed because I had never been to New York before. Others probably took the subway to many other places that were just as amazing. There was plenty to do and eat, which is the first thing everybody headed for right after getting off the bus, because it was past lunch time.
And after all the great site seeing, the day ended with some more excitement. The group met up at 6:00 p.m. and headed toward Rockefeller Center to tie on some skates. And when all the laces were tied, the students were ready to get out on the ice.
There were some students who went out on the ice and were just amazing and didn’t fall. Of course, there were those, like myself, who preferred to keep their two feet on the ground. But we all gave it a try and most of us didn’t fall.
It was a great day had by all the students that came along. We even got to see a proposal that happened on the ice right after everybody got off. It was nice, sweet, and a good ending. All SCOPE trips should end on such a nice note.
