BOSTON, Mass. – The University of New Haven men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships on Friday and Saturday at Boston University’s Track and Tennis Center. The women finished in 12th place, while the men finished in 32nd place. Each team had a number of standout performances.
Senior sprinter Shannon Gagne continued her outstanding season with a victory in the 200m dash. She posted a time of 23.60 in the prelims and 23.86 in the finals. Once again, teammate Ada Udaya was not far behind with a fourth place finish and a time of 24.69 seconds.
Also posted top finishes for the women was Shraya Manick with a throw of 16.16m in the weight throw. The distance was a personal best and a NCAA provisional mark for the sophomore. The women’s 4x400m relay team finished in fourth place with a time of 3:52.69. Dominique Stassulli posted a 20th place finish with a time of 5:11.34 in the one mile run.
Junior Kevin Downing led the way for the men’s team with a time of 21.90 and a seventh place finish in the 200 meter dash. He improved his NCAA provisional mark in the prelims with a time of 21.81 seconds.
The UNH 4x400m relay team posted a 16th place finish with a time of 3:22.12. Freshman Matt Jeune finished 10th in the high jump with a height of 1.88m.
The announcement of the NCAA Division II National Championship participants will take place on Tuesday, March 1. Those selected will advance to the championships which will take place in Albuquerque, N.M. on March 10-12.
