HOMEFEST: James Corden’s Late Late Show Special
Monday night, James Corden hosted a special edition of his late-night show on CBS featuring Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Will Ferrell and many others.
The special was meant to bring joy into people’s homes at a uniquely stressful time. Corden did not let social distancing stop his plans for a great night. He broadcast the event from his home garage and guest stars broadcast their performances from their homes. Corden also announced he’s raising money for the CDC Foundation, as well as Feed the Children.
The evening kicked off with John Legend performing a passionate piano version of his newly released song “Action.” Next up was a short segment featuring a playful Will Ferrell giving a collection of songs that people can sing while washing their hands followed by a demonstration. The next performer was alternative pop sensation Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas with her song “Everything I Wanted.”
Magician David Blaine confused the audience and Corden with a card trick and a perplexing mind game. After Blaine, Dua Lipa sang her new hit single “Don’t Stop Now.” from her flat in London. Her performance featured background singers, musicians, and dancers performing from their homes. Then viewers traveled to Tuscany, Italy, to hear a piece from legendary opera singer Andrea Bocelli. Bocelli encouraged the people of Italy to have hope and assured them that this pandemic will be over soon.
Viewers then were treated to a performance from the number one K-Pop group in the world, BTS. They sang and danced to their song “Boy with Luv.” The show closed with a surprise appearance from actor Ben Platt and the cast of the Broadway production “Dear Evan Hansen” performing the song “You Will Be Found.”
Other artists are streaming on their social media accounts to bring hope to people staying home during this pandemic.
