It is official for all you Brad and Jennifer lovers out there! Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Hollywood’s “It” couple, have finally called it quits after months of speculation.
Questions over the fidelity of the lovers was first called into question at the start of awards season, when Brad and Angelina were both conspicuously absent from the Golden Globes and SAGs despite the numerous nominations for Pitt’s movie Inglourious Basterds. Representatives for both actors denied the rumors, although close family friends suggested high tension between the couple. Without much surprise, both Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie missed the famed Oscars ceremony and have been conspicuously absent on the red carpet ever since.
Brad Pitt, best known for roles in Fight Club, Se7en, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, was previously married to famous Friends actress Jennifer Aniston before filing for divorce in 2005. Pitt, who had been working with Angelina Jolie on the blockbuster hit Mr. & Mrs. Smith, denies the existence of an affair, but Jolie’s unexpected pregnancy announcement in January of 2006 said otherwise. Adopting two children together and having three (including twins), Jolie and Pitt were considered to be the new “power couple” of the Hollywood press.
However, tensions between the two actors have always run high, with rumors of problems erupting early in 2010. Although Jolie sued a French magazine for publishing material about a pending breakup, behavior between the couple suggested extreme problems. Pitt had taken up residence far from the Jolie-Pitt home and time with the children had become split. For much of 2009 and the start of 2010, it was rare to see Angelina or Brad together, let alone happy.
Rumors were officially squashed early Monday morning, when Pitt announced that their pending separation. “Brad will always love Angie…they just need time apart right now,” his publicist delivered, “Whether they can come back from this is uncertain, but both hope for the best for their family.” The extensive Jolie-Pitt brood, which includes adopted children from three different countries, will most likely cause one of the biggest custody battles in Hollywood history. Although Jolie and Pitt never married, citing the need for “universal marriage” in the United States, Pitt adopted all children under his name. Who would be the better parent? At this point it is relatively hard to say.
For all of those Jennifer Aniston lovers out there, what does this say for the fate of the favorite and original Hollywood golden couple? Representatives for Aniston have said that she expresses her “deepest sympathies” for the Jolie-Pitt family. It seems as if the paparazzi thinks otherwise, as Aniston and Pitt have been spotted chatting together in cozy restaurants since news of the split first broke. Stay tuned in the next few months to see the results of the biggest romantic love triangle of the century. For more details, visit www.ChargerBulletin.com/12444/
