WEST HAVEN, Conn. – University of New Haven head women’s basketball coach Jessica Smith has named Nordia Henry the program’s new assistant coach.
Henry has joined the coaching staff and will begin her duties immediately.
“Nordia has a wealth of basketball experience and I expect her to be a great addition to the staff,” said Smith. “She has a proven record of success and professional playing experience.”
Henry has spent the previous two seasons at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. She served as an assistant coach and was responsible for team travel, film exchange, aiding in daily practices, scouting and on-court instruction.
During two seasons, Henry helped turn a seven-win team into a 21-win team in two seasons. She instructed the 2010-11 Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year and the 2011-12 CACC Freshman of the Year.
Prior to beginning her collegiate coaching career in 2010, Henry played two seasons professionally in Portugal and the Czech Republic.
In Portugal she was named to the All-Portuguese Third Team and made the All-Star Team after leading the league in rebounding. Henry played her collegiate career at Wilmington University (Delaware) where she was the first player to score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds.
She was also a three-time All-Conference selection and a team captain for the Wildcats.
