From Human Resources at the University of New Haven:
On Wednesday, November 18, 2009 Heath Net informed the Connecticut Attorney General that they, Heath Net, had a data breach in their Connecticut office located in Shelton. On Thursday, November 19, 2009 Health Net informed Human Resources that there were University of New Haven employees included in the data breach. While the data breach is serious, the information contained on the missing equipment can only be read with special software. Additionally, to date, Health Net investigations has not found any evidence that any of the data has been misused.
Health Net understands the importance of privacy to their members and is working to notify everyone affected as quickly as possible, provide the right tools to remedy any problems and answer any questions you may have. Health Net will provide credit monitoring for two years, free of charge, to all impacted members who elect the service, and will provide assistance to any member who has experienced any suspicious activity of fraud between May 2009 and the date of enrollment in the identity protection service.
If you are a Health Net member affected by the security breach, communications from Health Net will be sent to you at your home address. Health Net expects to begin mailing letters during the week on November 30 and will have more information about services available to affected members. Be sure to watch your mail over the next two weeks for this important information.
Health Net will keep Human Resources informed of their overall progress, however since HR does not have access to your personal health information we will not be provided with information for individual employees.
