The earth needs our help! We must do all we can to clean up the planet, and to do so, we should recycle more, reuse bottles and bags, plant flowers and trees, and more to save our home. Well SCOPE and the UNH Green Team are doing just that. On Friday, October 21, the two clubs got together and had a Go Green night where students could do great things to help save the planet.
One of the activities that you could do was to decorate your own recycling bin. The clubs gave out recycling bins and paint, and the students put all kinds of great art on them to jazz them up, match the decorations in their rooms, or to match their personalities. Some students even got their hands dirty and painted the entire bin with their hand prints; it was a cool design. There were simple ones and more creative ones, bright ones, and themed ones, but each one was fantastic. Whether there were hand painted ones or themed ones, it didn’t matter because all the students that came to decorate were helpers. They are taking their first or another step toward recycling, which is just one part.
Another part that students took to help the planet was to decorate flower pots. Again each one was unique in its own way, and they were all fantastic. And SCOPE and the UNH Green Team took it one step further and gave away marigolds with the flower pots. Not only was it a great addition to any room to brighten it up, but it is also an addition to the earth. Hopefully one day they will be planted to make the earth look brighter too.
But that wasn’t enough planet saving for the two clubs; you bet there was more. The final activity that they had was to decorate your own reusable tote bag. There were different colors to choose from, and the colorful bags that left the Programming Space were a sight to see. Some bags had touching sayings, while others were just very artistic with swirls and dots to make each bag personal to the person. These bags are going to be great to carry around school books or groceries in instead of using plastic bags that get thrown out. This is going to be great for the planet.
All the students that came are mindful of the help earth needs from everyone that lives here. They took some great steps to help reduce the amount of garbage going into landfills, to recycle more, and plants flowers for the planet. These are all great steps and hopefully SCOPE and the UNH Green Team can get more people to make great steps.
