The end of the semester is just a week away, and that means a few things! First, all of that work that everyone has been putting off finally needs to be finished. Second, finals are just around the corner, so it’s time to bust out all those notes, quizzes, and tests that have accumulated over the semester. Third, get ready for our annual Spring Weekend, since it’s happening this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (April 29 through May 1). This week marks the beginning of the end, so get prepared and stick it out because break is almost here!
Despite all those mentions of not procrastinating that I’ve sprinkled throughout my editorials over the past year, I know that nearly everyone did it anyway. It’s a fact of being a student that we will put off work whenever it’s remotely possible, and sometimes even when it’s not. Regardless, don’t let a large pile of work to do stress you out. You’ve made it this far in the semester, now is no time to let it get to you. Sit down and figure out a schedule that will let you manageably get through everything. If you feel yourself getting overwhelmed, take a short break to grab a bite to eat, take a walk outside (it’s looking to be nice out this weekend, mid sixties and partly cloudy!), or anything else that just helps you unwind for a few. If everything is really falling apart and you don’t know what to do, try taking a trip to the Center for Learning Resources (the CLR, downstairs in the library), setup a study group with some classmates, or even talk to your professor about what you are struggling with.
This leads me to my next point: preparing for finals! Back in high school, final exams stressed me out, but at this point in my academic career, I’ve just learned what works for me in terms of study habits. If you know what works for you, fantastic, go ahead and apply that to studying. However, if you don’t, don’t sweat it! Once again, there are resources to help you out, whether you head to the First Year Student Success Center or the CLR, there are plenty of folks who can help you get ready for your exams.
Closer than finals, this year’s Spring Weekend is happening at the end of this week! The weekend kicks off on Friday night with the concert and in case you haven’t heard, this year’s lineup is David Nail, Far East Movement, and We the Kings. Then, on Saturday, the annual Spring Carnival festivities and comedian will be up at North Campus for all to enjoy. The weekend concludes with the “drive-in” movie in the Bixler-Botwinik quad. For all the exact details on these events, be sure to read “SCOPE it Out!” on page three. One caveat with Spring Weekend celebrations: it’s fine to relax and have a good time and even let loose a little bit, but don’t go overboard.
Well that about wraps up this editorial, so it’s time to buckle down and finish this last full week of classes, enjoy Spring Weekend, survive three more days of classes, study up on the reading day, and then ace all those finals! Easier said than done, but a little bit of effort goes a long way, and I wish you all the best of luck in ending the semester and academic year on a good note.
