WEST HAVEN–Your
home and dorm should be a safe haven, but do you regularly check for fire
hazards? If not, there is the potential for danger. Fire departments responded
to nearly 400,000 home fires in 2006 alone. That’s why the theme of Fire
Prevention Week in 2008 is “It’s Fire Prevention Week: Prevent Home Fires!”
From Oct. 5
through Oct. 11, 2008, Fire Science Club members and fire advocates will be
spreading the word to or community here at the university. We hope that with a
little extra caution and prevention of the leading causes of home and dorm
fires-such as cooking, electrical and smoking-materials-is within our power.
We hope that you
will come out and join us for our many activities to get you prepared and aware
of how to prevent a home fire. Your dorm is your home so treat it like such and
prevent home fires!
Some events for fire prevention
week include: a fire prevention table for information and fun items, Charlie the
Charger as a fire fighter, an extinguishing demonstration in the quad,
residence hall programs, a Burn Box to simulate a fire condition, and a smoke
house, just to name a few. So come out and have fun with us for Fire Prevention
Week 2008!
