On Friday (September 23), Taiwan’s former Vice President, Wu Den-yih, visited the University of New Haven for an official visit to the Henry Lee Institute of Forensic Science. His wife Tsai Ling-yih, liaison and directors of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office of New York City, and representatives of Chinese and Taiwanese communities accompanied Mr. Wu.
It was Mr. Wu’s first overseas trip to the United States since stepping down as Vice President on May 20, 2016. The trip to U.N.H. was the first stop on his U.S. tour.
According to the Presidential Office of Taiwan, Wu’s visit was approved based on the Classified National Security Information Protection Act. During his visit to the United States, Mr. Wu will attend conferences for Chinese and Taiwanese organizations.
Famous forensic scientist, Dr. Henry C. Lee, University of New Haven staff members and international students from Taiwan, met Mr. Wu for a tour of the institution and a private meeting. After touring the Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science, Mr. Wu and other members of his staff enjoyed a presentation by Dr. Lee.
Coordinator of Henry Lee Institute of Forensic Science, Joseph Sudol said, “It’s a great privilege having a politician of that stature visit the University of New Haven”.
According to Mr. Wu’s office, after visiting U.N.H., Mr. Wu attended the annual meeting of the Taiwan Benevolent Association of America in Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Wu was a keynote speaker at the event on Sept. 24.
