Fans to be allowed at games this spring
Three days before the start of the spring sports season, the University of New Haven Department of Athletics has released its fan policy for spring home games. Only members of the campus community – students, faculty or staff members – will be allowed to attend games. Those that attend will have to present their Co-verified badges upon entrance and abide by university social distancing policies and mask policy. Athletic facilities are subject to state-set capacity limits.
This policy extends to all of the Charger athletic facilities including Kathy Zolad Stadium, Charger Gymnasium, DellaCamera Stadium, Vieira Field, the softball field and the tennis courts.
The policy says that there is absolutely no tailgating in parking lots before home games and violators will be subject to punishments.
Because of outside fans not being allowed to attend events, all home games will be available to stream online. Live broadcasts will be streamed on the Charger Sports Network and on the NE10 NOW app. Links are available on the New Haven athletics website and also posted on the athletics social media pages.
This is a big step as initially it was believed that fans were not going to be allowed to attend games. The first games begin on Saturday when softball hosts Stonehill College at 12 p.m. along with Lacrosse hosting American International College at 1 p.m.
