Friday night, on August 28, news broke that Adam Goldstein, also known as DJ AM, was found dead in his New York City apartment. Many friends, family, and fans, were shocked to hear the news. Adam Goldstein started DJ’ing in the early 90’s, taking the name “DJ AM.” After making a following in the local New York City club scene, AM soon switched coasts, joining the Los Angeles group Crazy Town. They had a radio hit with their song “Butterfly”. Adam continued to DJ, recording with Papa Roach, Madonna, and Jay-Z, and playing private parties for Jennifer Lopez, Leonardo Dicaprio, and Kate Hudson. Most recently, Adam had made regular appearances in Las Vegas’s Pure nightclub, and Atlantic City’s Caesars. In 2008, Adam started to collaborate regularly with Travis Barker of Blink-182, forming a strong friendship which was further solidified after they survived a plane crash in September 2008, which killed four people. Adam Goldstein had been clean, and sober throughout the majority of his career, but within the past couple of weeks friends reportedly said Adam was upset over a break up. Police arrived to Adam Goldstein’s apartment on Friday evening, after friends were concerned when they hadn’t heard from him. The cause of death was unknown, however, after further investigation, drug paraphernalia was found at the scene.
