In 2001, 24-year-old Chandra Levy was reported missing. Levy was working as an intern in the office of Federal Bureau of Prisons in Washington D.C. Levy was reported missing in early May 2001 after she failed to return from a trip to Rock Creek Park in the greater D.C. area. The report was filed by her parents.

A small investigation started, and police originally accused Gary Condit, a local representative that Levy was having an affair with. However, evidence proved Condit was not guilty once the body was discovered in May 2002. Leads soon gravitated towards Ingmar Guandique.

Guandique was convicted of attacking two other women in Rock Creek Park around the time Levy disappeared. The two other incidents were documented as occurring in May and July of 2001. Guandique is currently in prison serving time for his two attacks, and inmates have stated Guandique admitted to killing Chandra Levy in May 2001. An official arrest is looking to be made soon.

Chandra Levy’s parents commented on the final prosecution towards their daughter’s murder in Time Magazine: “This helps a little….But we still don’t have our daughter and we have a life sentence without her. Grief is like a marathon. You don’t get over it.”
