If you’re anything like the rest of the people on this campus and you need something to break the ice with a crush, you shouldn’t have missed last Thursday, October 3’s SCOPE event. A famous pair of college dating coaches were presenting in the German Club advising students on everything from how to break the ice to how to act on a first date. Dave and Ethan brought a different, comical approach to giving advice on a topic that almost everyone can use a little help with.
They started their presentation with a video that they had created to show how they became experts on dating. Dave and Ethan, as a joke originally, put a video up on YouTube asking girls to send videos back if they wanted to go on a double date with them. To their amazement, some girls actually responded. They have had dates from the very simple to the extreme from the girls they met online. When they thought that that didn’t work, they started asking for double dates on the street and went on even more dates. This showed that they knew a thing or two about dating from their video and even showed us how funny the presentation was going to be
When they came out on stage, they introduced themselves and broke the rough mood by making fun of some of the dates they had been on and each other. Then they did a little skit on how a typical girl might spend her Thursday getting ready to go out downtown. From information that they got from SCOPE, they did their skit making fun of Bethel (how many people live in one dorm) Bartels Cafeteria food (how bad it is and how interesting some of the staff is), Gotham (a hot spot for freshman), Sandellas (how everyone loves to go there late at night), and even our USGA President (apparently someone said he was really cute and Dave and Ethan just jumped on it).
They brought the audience through picking clothes, eating dinner, going out, having a few drinks, meeting a boy at the club, and finished it off with how most nights end after coming back from the club (throwing it all up and going to bed). It was hilarious seeing two guys act like girls and proving that maybe this is not the best way to get out on the dating scene and maybe not the way you want to be seen. The two of them were able to get the message across in a different and funny way, and the audience loved it.
They continued the night by giving advice on all sorts of aspects of dating. For example, they gave a demonstration on how a guy and girl should dance with each. They started with the basics and then went into slow dancing (where they played the Celine Dion song from the Titanic and got maybe a little too close), and then hip hop.
Audience participation was even required during the show. They took a girl up on stage and asked questions about a bad date that she had; they then acted it out. Of course they added their little flair to it to make it hilarious to watch. After that, they showed how the date would have actually went if the girl had done it differently. The basic message that they were giving was that guys are sometimes nervous taking a girl they like, and they can act weird around her; but if the girl just tells them that it’s ok and to calm down, then the guy can relax. It was good advice.
So after all of this advice, they then wanted to put together a UNH couple. They did a dating game and had a single guy ask questions to three girls and see which answers he liked the most. After he asked some questions and the girls gave some great answers, he chose; Dave and Ethan had them slow dance together. They were actually a really cute pair.
After the show, Dave and Ethan stayed after to sign cards and talk to students, which was a great end to a great night. Hope everyone gets a date soon with this great advice.
