On Sunday, Oct. 7, the New Haven Chargers raced at Stanley Park in Massachusetts for the New England Championships.
The New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association, NEICAAA, consists of 65 colleges and universities within the six New England states. The conference is comprised of 17 Division I colleges and universities, six Division II colleges and universities and 35 Division III colleges and universities.
On the men’s side, running an 8K, freshman Sean Grady came in first for the Chargers with a time of 26:43.60. Senior Arnold Lane followed with a time of 28:14.80.
Freshman Chad Messam, senior Marvin Azor, and sophomore Ryan Parris came in one after another with the times of 28:45.36, 28:47.58, and 28:48.81 respectively. Freshman Devin Rose ran a time of 29:31.38, and freshman Jason Fisher ran a time of 33:11. 44.
There were 261 runners in the men’s race, and overall the Chargers placed 34th out of 37 teams.
On the women’s side, running a 5K, sophomore Danielle Sorrentino came in first with a time of 19:42.00. This was a season best for Sorrentino.
Senior Dominique Stassulli followed with a time of 19:56.28. This was Stassulli’s first race of the season, and came back strong from a recent ankle injury.
Sophomore Alejandra Cortez came in next for the Chargers with a time of 20:20. 66. Seniors Tania Bernardino and Bridget Faria ran 21:00.68 and 22:03.06 respectively. Freshman Danielle Cuervo 28:51.33.
There were 251 runners in the women’s race and the Chargers placed 34th out of 37 teams.
Absent from today’s race were freshman Andrew Cunningham, sophomore Garret Davis, sophomore Samantha Mathewson, sophomore Leilani Kortman and sophomore Brianna Barron.
The Chargers will race next at the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Championship at Jamesville Beach Park in Jamesville, N.Y.
