Drug and liquor law violations are in decline on the University of New Haven campus, with drug and liquor arrests at a three year low, according to the 2016 Campus Clery Report released by U.N.H. Campus Police.
Only two arrests for drug violations were made in 2015, with 107 instances of disciplinary deferral, down 42 from the year before.
Liquor arrests bottomed out at zero for 2015, down from 4 the previous year and 9 in 2013. Deferrals to disciplinary action are up slightly, however, with 369 violations last year, compared to 366 in the year before and 479 in 2013.
These were the most popular offenses in the annual report, which is required by law on all college campuses. Reports for rape on campus have stayed stagnant at four per year over the last three years. Only five burglary reports were submitted, down from six in the previous year.
The Clery report also includes fire safety incidents for on and off campus housing. Most halls completed the last year unscathed, with the only reported occurrence being the fire at Main Street Apartments. The value of damaged property was placed at $50,000 – $99,999, with the cause of the fire still in question.
The Campus Police Department is under new leadership this year, with the appointment of the first female police chief in its history, Tracy Mooney.
“The security of our campus community is of the utmost importance and we work diligently to achieve this goal through proactive policing,” she said in her opening message.
