I was talking to my friend and the bouncer at the club the other day, and the bouncer said he needed a walkie-talkie so I asked him if he was 5. He said they are more fun now that he’s older. The next day, my friend was telling us about the walkie-talkies he just ordered in the mail and how they were going to use them. It really got me thinking that most things from childhood are more fun as you get older.
In kids’ movies and cartoons, they make half the script for the children and half for the adults who have to watch it with the children. As you get older you start to understand more of the jokes that are made for the adults, and the movies seem ten times funnier. We sit there and watch SpongeBob and the Disney Halloween movies and we just soak up how great they still are.
Some games get better as you get older too. For example, Neopets. My roommate and I started new Neopets accounts last month with our school emails because we’re losers. Now that we understand how to play the games, and don’t just click random buttons hoping to get more points, the games are actually fun. I know it sounds lame that we are playing Neopets, but it’s okay because a girl in our classes told us it was originally invented for college students, and you can even sign up through Facebook now!
Board games are more fun now too! You don’t feel like you need to cheat every time you play because you actually understand how to play and how to win. Unless you are playing Mouse Trap, no one ever actually learned how to play that game right.
When you colored when you were young, you can’t color in the lines and the picture just turns out to be a mess and never looks how it should. The outcome of your picture is always better now because you can get in the lines like you were always jealous that your parents could do. Now when you color your pictures are actually worth hanging on your wall.
Toys like hula-hoops get more fun when you get older too because you can keep them up for more than 5 seconds at a time and you can do more things with them. One of the first weekends we were here I taught myself a lot of new tricks. I can now eat, drink, walk, skip, run, dance, do a push up, and almost Cotton-eye Joe while hula-hooping. I can also keep going until I get bored and want to stop now, which is impressively 15 minutes.
But just because everything seems so much more fun when you are older, do not go out and buy a Furby. Those are creepy no matter how old you get, and it will be even more annoying when they wake you up in the middle of the night when you are older.
