BOSTON, Mass. – The University of New Haven men’s track and field team competed at the Terrier Inviational, hosted by Boston University on Saturday. Numerous season-best marks were hit, including David Thomas (Taneytown, Md./Frostburg State) in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.74 seconds.
The mark moved Thomas up the NCAA provisional qualifying list to the 12th best time in Division II this season. Thomas finished in 14th place overall and was the top Division II finisher. The Taneytown, Md. native also competed in the long jump, posting a distance of 7.08 meters in third place overall. The leap was the best Division II mark as well.
The Chargers’ sprinters also performed well in the 60, 400 and 500 meter dashes. Ato Pinkrah (Olney, M.D./Magruder High School) was the fourth Division II finisher in the 60 meter with a time of 7.45 seconds, while Nazim Roberts-Smith (Albany, N.Y./Colonie) was the sixth-best Division II performer with a time of 50.60 seconds in the 400 meter dash. Devin Rose (Dover, N.H./Dover) ran the third-best Division II time in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:08.60.
Freshman Sean Grady (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) placed 47th overall and fifth in Division II with a time of 2:36.89 in the 1,000 meter run. In mid-distance runs, Chad Messam (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Ford) recorded a time of 2:03.04 and was the 15th Division II finisher.
In the field events, Rakesh Dataram (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) helped the Chargers with a 20th overall finish and a jump of 1.85 meters. Pinkrah led the team in the triple jump with a leap of 11.63 meters and a 36th place finish. Jordan Rippe (Northford, Conn./North Branford) was 36th overall in the weight throw with a toss of 12.76 meters.
New Haven returns to action at the Giegengack Invitational on Friday, Feb. 1 and Saturday, Feb. 2 hosted by Yale University.
