SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The University of New Haven women’s lacrosse team has been picked to finish fifth in the Northeast-10 Conference as voted by the conference’s 13 head coaches. The 2011 preseason poll was released Tuesday by the conference office.
The Chargers are coming off a 7-9 season in 2010 when they posted a sixth place finish in the NE-10 with a 6-5 record. In 2010, New Haven made its third-straight postseason appearance, but fell to Merrimack College in the opening round of the NE-10 tournament.
This season UNH returns eight starters, including their top scorer from last year’s team, Sarah Magnone. The junior recorded 52 total points (43g, 9a) last season. Also returning in 2011 will be one of the team’s top performers from 2009, Ashley Ferrandiz who suffered a season-ending injury after just four games last season.
New Haven opens its 2011 campaign on Thursday, March 10 when they host Molloy College in a non-conference game at Kayo Field. The team then hits the road for three games, before opening its NE-10 home schedule against Merrimack College on Saturday, March 26.
