The University of New Haven fell to the American International College Yellow Jackets 64-57 on Wednesday night at Charger Gymnasium. With the loss the Chargers fall to 2-18 overall and 2-14 in the Northeast-10 Conference. AIC improves to 10-11 overall and 8-8 in conference play. Points off turnovers were a big factor once again. It is very difficult to win conference games when you can’t make your opponent pay for their mistakes.
The Chargers were able to get out to an early six-point lead at 15-9 with 12:57 left in the first half. New Haven was able to extend the lead to eight with 4:07 left in first half with a three pointer by Darryl Greene at 28-20. AIC was able to trim the lead to five before the half to go into the locker rooms down 28-23.
Greene, who had nine points on 3-7 shooting, paced New Haven. Adding seven points to go along with four first half rebounds was Cassius Chaney. The Yellow Jackets were led by Adrian Hynes-Guery who led all scorers with 10 points and Isiah Wallace who added six points and three rebounds in the first twenty minutes.The second half belonged to the Yellow Jackets. They out scored the Chargers in the paint (22-14), off turnovers (8-0), fast break (6-2), and bench points (8-2). Maintaining a lead is extremely difficult when you are out scored in all of those categories. AIC took their first lead of the second half when Adrian Hynes-Guery made a layup with 8:03 left to give AIC 46-44 lead. AIC was able to keep UNH at bay for the remaining eight minutes to pull out the 64-57 win on the road.
New Haven was led by Cassius Chaney with 20 and seven rebounds. The only other Charger in double figures was Greene with 11 points. Jeremy Williams added eight points and six rebounds and Robert Jamerson added nine points and six boards. AIC was led by Adrian Hynes-Guery, with 21 points, he also added 10 rebounds. Aikeem Vanderhorst also had a double double with 10 points and 12 boards.
Other Yellow Jackets in double figures were Isiah Wallace with 14 and Ricky Hudson with 10.
