WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women’s soccer team fell short to Assumption College on Saturday afternoon by the score of 2-0. With the loss, the Chargers are now 5-4 overall and 4-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Greyhounds are now 3-6-1 overall and 1-6-1 in league play.
New Haven opened the game strong as Amber Simms (Southport, England/Southport) and Monica Yanez (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) recorded shots just 37 seconds and 45 seconds into the first half respectively. However, the Chargers would not register another shot the remainder of the period as they entered the break, tied at 0-0.
The first goal of the game occured in the final 45 minutes of regulation as Molly Kessler found Kelsey Imondi for a goal at the 53:04 mark. The duo would connect on an insurance goal with just 12 minutes to play as Assumption pulled away with a 2-0 win.
The Greyhounds outshot New Haven, 11 to five. Yanez led all Chargers with two shots while Shannon Morales (Bloomfield, Conn./Northwest Catholic), Nicole Pacapelli (West Haven, Conn./West Haven / Stonehill College) and Simms all registed a shot. Kim Taylor (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford ) made four saves in goal.
New Haven returns to action on Tuesday, October 4 as they travel to Oakdale, N.Y. for a non-conference matchup against Dowling. Game time is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
